Horgan Homes managing director Sophie Horgan has been named as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction.
She was named last month in the National Federation of Builders’ prestigious list, which aims to showcase women in the sector to make female and non-binary role models more visible and accessible.
Sophie said: “I’m delighted to have been named in the 100 most influential women list. I do everything I can to use my profile to encourage more women to look at what construction can offer them, and I hope to inspire girls to think of construction as a good option for a fulfilling career.”
Sophie took over the day to day running of the business from her father John, who founded the company.
She added: “I aim to lead by example and raise the bar for what can be achieved by women in the sector. Although my father John, a bricklayer by trade, set up his own building company, I’ve been privileged to lead and develop the company in recent years to be the multiple award-winning brand it is today.
“I was only one of two women on my Building Studies HND course and the sole female on my Construction Management degree course.
“Despite my dad being the boss, there was no easy route to the top! I had to work my way from an admin role to assistant site manager, then site manager before progressing to director of construction and, ultimately, the directorship of Horgan Homes.”
