Award-winning housebuilder Horgan Homes welcomes a major investment in skills training in the construction industry.
The Chancellor announced £600million of funding to train tens of thousands more skilled construction workers over the next four years ahead of this week's Spring Statement.
The government says the extra cash will help train up to 60,000 engineers, bricklayers, electricians and carpenters by 2029 to tackle skills shortages.
Sophie Horgan, director of the Bromsgrove-based company, said the move was much needed to help train the next generation of builders.
“This investment is a very welcome step forward and will be absolutely vital if the construction sector is to hit the government’s target of building 1.5million new homes over the next five years.
“I am particularly pleased to see the money being directed to creating more placements, to 10 new Technical Excellence Colleges, launching new foundation apprenticeships and expanding skills bootcamps.
“We need to attract a much more diverse intake into our industry and plug the leaky pipeline which at the moment is seeing far too many young people not even consider a career with us.
“This investment can play a big part in that and help us get this country building again.”
Horgan Homes is now established as one of the Midlands’ top independent housebuilders, with a raft of awards and accolades. It is currently developing sites across the region including in Worcestershire and Lincolnshire.
